Providence College Women's Tennis Competes in Eastern Intercollegiate Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Providence College women's tennis team traveled to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16. Eighteen teams competed in the tournament, including BIG EAST foes, Connecticut, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia. The tournament involved consolation matches, giving all players multiple matches. In PC play, sophomore Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) played in the first singles spot, compiling a 2-3 tournament record. In her last three matches, she went 2-1. In second singles, sophomore Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) went 0-3 over the course of the two days. Senior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied a 2-3 record for the tournament at third singles and freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) posted a 1-2 record in the 4th singles position. In doubles play, junior Katie Danaher (Norwood, Mass.) and senior Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) went 1-1 at first doubles. The freshman team of Jen Cusack (Bay Point, N.Y.) and Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) compiled a 1-2 record at second doubles. Providence returns to action on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to the University of Rhode Island for the URI Duals beginning at 9:00 a.m.
