PROVIDENCE TENNIS FALLS TO PITTSBURGH, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College tennis team was defeated, 6-1, by Pittsburgh on Sunday, April 3. Senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.) led the Friars at No. 2 singles, posting the first BIG EAST victory of her career.

In doubles action, Providence's No. 1 duo, junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and Bitetti, was defeated by Kristy Borza and Leah Friedman, 8-1. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) and junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) lost to Emily Hughes and Carlie Smith, 8-1. Finally, at third doubles, freshmen Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) fell to Annie Davies and Becky Emmers, 8-4.

In singles, Bitetti posted a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 win over Leah Friedman at the No. 2 position. The Panthers swept the remaining singles matches, with Daigle being defeated at No. 1 (1-6, 3-6), Rissolo at No. 3 (1-6, 1-6), Kenaga at No. 4 (1-6, 3-6), sophomore Kate Lyons, (Barrington, R.I.) at No. 5 (1-6, 0-6), and Gilroy at No. 6 (2-6, 4-6).

The Friars (5-9) return to action on Wednesday, April 5, when they travel to Connecticut for a 3:00 p.m. match against the Huskies.
