Tennis Soars Past Hartford, 6-1

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - On Tuesday, April 25, the Providence College tennis team closed out its 2005-06 campaign with a 6-1 win at Hartford. Providence swept the Hawks in doubles matches and won all but one singles contests.
The Friars were dominant in doubles competition with all three PC pairs shutting down their opponents, 8-0. Senior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass) and freshman Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) teamed up for the win at No. 1, junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield Conn.) and Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) at No. 2, and junior Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Marissa Bigelli (Lincoln, R.I.) at No. 3.
Providence went on to win five-of-six singles matches with Bitetti defeating Lauren Perry (6-2, 6-0) at No. 1, sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) beating Kasey Michels (7-5, 6-0) at No. 3, sophomore Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) posting a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win over Halley Werner at No. 4, Gilroy defeating Diana Stabers (6-3, 6-3) at No. 5 and Schulz notching a 6-1, 6-1 win over Michelle Tafur at No. 6.
With the win, the Friars concluded their 2005-06 season with an 8-13 record.
