Tennis Defeated At Sacred Heart, 4-3

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Providence College tennis team was defeated, 4-3, at Sacred Heart on Sunday, April 9. The Friars were led by senior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.), who completed a come-from-behind victory at No. 2 singles, after teaming with junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) for a win at No. 1 doubles.
In doubles, Bitetti and Daigle defeated Lauren Galatie and Pam Pillo, 8-5, and No. 1. At No. 2, junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) were defeated, 8-4, by Laura Murillo and Nicole Betz. Finally, at No. 3, freshmen Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) fell to Jessica Schnell and Mandy Finkelstein by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, Bitetti pulled off a win at No. 2 singles after losing her first set. Lyons and Gilroy earned the Friars' other two points after posting straight-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The Friars (5-10) return to action on Tuesday, April 11, when they travel to Storrs, Conn. for a 3:00 p.m. match against the UConn Huskies.
