Tennis Defeats Grossmont College, 4-3

EL CAJON, CALIF. - On Wednesday, March 8, the Providence College tennis squad picked up their second win of the spring season with a 4-3 defeat over Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif. The Friars were led by freshmen Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.), who paired up for PC's sole doubles victory before going on to win their respective singles matches.
Providence collected all four of its points in singles play, with senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.) defeating Alyse Tyson at No. 2 (6-1, 6-7, 10-8), Rissolo beating Brianna McClintock at No. 4 (6-0, 6-4), sophomore Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) knocking off Yasuko Ono at No. 5 (6-2, 3-6, 6-3), and Gilroy defeating Rene Malcuit at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0).
In doubles, Rissolo and Gilroy teamed up for the Friars' only win, shutting down Yasuko Ono and Justine Gordon, 8-0. PC's top duo, Bitetti and junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) were defeated at No. 1 by a score of 8-6, while juniors Andrea Lee (Cunmberland, R.I.) and Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) rounded out doubles competition with an 8-6 loss at No. 2.
The Friars (4-6) will continue play in the Golden State when they travel to Claremont, Calif. for a 5:00 p.m. match against Claremont McKenna College on Thursday, March 9.
