RIVERSIDE, CALIF. - The Providence College tennis team was shut out, 7-0, at UC Riverside on Tuesday, March 7. The defeat marked the fourth-consecutive loss for the Friars.
In doubles action, Providence's No. 1 duo, junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.), was defeated by Casey Cross and Erynne Oki, 8-2. At the No. 2 position, juniors Andrea Lee (Cunmberland, R.I.) and Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) lost to H.R. Espiritu and Bethany Brendon, 8-2. Finally, at third doubles, Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) fell to Colette Chau and Eri Yoshimoto, 8-4.
The Highlanders swept the singles play as well, with Daigle being defeated at No. 1 (0-6, 1-6), Bitetti at No. 2 (2-6, 1-6), Lee at No. 3 (1-6, 0-6), Rissolo at No. 4 (0-6, 0-6), sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) at No. 5 (1-6, 3-6), and Gilroy at No. 6 (1-6, 1-6).
The Friars (3-6) will continue play in the Golden State when they travel to El Cajon, Calif. for a 5:00 p.m. match against the Grossmont College Griffins on Wednesday, March 8.
