JERSEY CITY, N.J. -
On Sunday, March 19, the Providence College tennis team traveled to Jersey City, N.J. for matches against St. Peter's and Temple. The Friars went 1-1 on the day with a 6-0 win over the Peahens before falling to the Owls, 4-1. PC was led by sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.), who was the only Friar to go undefeated over three matches.
Against St. Peter's, Kenaga teamed with junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) to grab an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles before going on to post a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. In the following match against Temple, Kenaga and Schulz defeated their opponents at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.
"I am happy with our results this weekend," said Head Coach Wayne Turner. "Our girls weren't used to the surface which resulted in St. Peter's taking an early lead, but then we settled down, adapted, and battled back. I also was pleased with our play against Temple. Its easy to lose your focus when you play back-to-back matches, but we stayed focused and continued to play hard. Erin (Kenaga) had a great outing this weekend. Between singles and doubles she picked up a total of three wins. I am proud of her for stepping up, playing hard and kepping her intensity until the very end of her last match."
The Friars return to action on Sunday, April 2, when they host Pittsburgh at 10:00 a.m.
