CLAREMONT, CALIF. - The Providence College tennis team was shut out, 7-0, at Claremont McKenna on Thursday, March 9. The Friars lost all singles matches in straight sets and were defeated in all doubles matches.

In doubles action, Providence's No. 1 duo, junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.), was defeated by Jeannine Liang and Yasmin Entekhabi , 8-2. At the No. 2 position, juniors Andrea Lee (Cunmberland, R.I.) and Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) lost to Stephanie Hammond and Kristen Handley, 8-2. Finally, at third doubles, Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) fell to Allison Laygo and Jessica Nagasako, 8-4. In exhibition doubles matches, junior Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Katie Danaher (Norwood, Mass.) were defeated by Jessica Fox and Elisa LaCava, 8-1, while senior Marissa Bigelli (Lincoln, R.I.) and sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) fell to Emily Johnston and Payton Watkins, 8-2.

Claremont McKenna swept the singles play as well, with Bitetti being defeated at No. 1 (5-7, 5-7), Lee at No. 2 (4-6, 2-6), Rissolo at No. 3 (0-6, 0-6), Lyons at No. 4 (5-7, 2-6), Gilroy at No. 5 (2-6, 2-6), and Kenaga at No. 6 (2-6, 2-6). In exhibition singles matches, Griffin lost (1-6, 0-6), Schulz was defeated (2-6, 1-8), freshman Katie Sue Scullin (Liverpool, N.Y.) fell (8-1) and freshman Amy Davagian picked up PC's only win of the afternoon with an 8-1 victory over her opponent.

The Friars (4-7) will return to action on Saturday, March 17, when they travel to Hartford. Match time is TBA.
