PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College tennis team was defeated, 7-0, at UMass-Lowell on Friday, February 24. With the loss, the Friars fall to 3-5 on the year.
In doubles, Providence's No. 1 duo of junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.) was defeated by Spiess and Pozar, 8-3. At the No. 2 position, juniors Andrea Lee (Cunmberland, R.I.) and Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) fell to Johnson and Iwanowicz, 8-0. Finally, freshmen Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and classmate Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) lost to MacKay and Giminez, 8-4.
The Minutemen swept singles play as well, with Daigle being defeated at No. 1 (1-6, 1-6), Bitetti at No. 2 (0-6, 0-6), Lee at No. 3 (0-6, 1-6), Rissolo at No. 4 (1-6, 1-6), sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) at No. 5 (0-6, 1-6) and Gilroy and No. 6 (1-6, 2-6).
The Friars (3-5) return to action on Sunday, March 19, when they travel to Jersey City, N.J. for matches against St. Peters and Temple.
