Senior defender Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) has been named the TPS HOCKEY EAST Player of the Month according to a conference release on Friday, December 1, 2006. Sophomore Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) was named a runner-up for goalie of the month honors. Gigliotti and Ciarletta will be in action this weekend hosting Boston University on Saturday, December 2 and Boston College on Sunday, December 3. Both games start at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
Gigliotti has been a scoring force all year long and continued to tally points in the month of November. She tallied six goals and four assists, good for 10 points in seven games. All of her goals came on the road as Providence only played two home games in November. Four of Gigliotti's six goals came via the powerplay. Kristin scored five straight Providence goals to begin the month before a teammate netted a goal against BU. Gigliotti currently ranks first among defenders in the nation with 11 goals and is second with 19 points, one behind the leader.
Ciarletta spent 221:11 minutes in the net this month for the Friars allowing just three goals for a GAA of 0.81. In that time she also made 71 saves for a .959 save percentage. She did not lose in the month of November compiling a 1-0-2 record including a 60 minute shutout of Niagara. Ciarletta allowed one goal in nearly 65 minutes of each overtime game against Maine and Robert Morris. For this stellar play, Danielle was a runner-up in the ITECH Goaltender of the Month category.
