Women's Basketball Earns 75-74 Win Over Northeastern

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team won its fourth-straight game with a 75-74 victory over Northeastern on Saturday, November 18 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Sophomore Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) registered a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds for the Friars. Northeastern was led offensively by Shaleyse Smallwood's 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Providence took a healthy 12-point lead into halftime (40-28) before being outscored, 46-35, in the second half. PC led by as many as 14 points (61-47) with 10:43 remaining in the game, but the Huskies closed out the game with a 27-14 scoring advantage the rest of the way. Northeastern had a chance to win the game, but Ashlee Feldman's jumper inside the key rimmed out as time expired. The Huskies connected on 14-of-28 (.500) shot attempts in the second half, while the Friars made just 10-of-29 (.345) in the final 20 minutes of play.
Three Friars joined Marandola in double figures. Senior Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) tallied 13 points. Freshman Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) added 11 points, while sophomore Catherine Bove (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 10 points. Bove dished out a team-high four assists.
Jody Burrows tallied a double-double for Northeastern with 10 points and 10 assists. She also added seven rebounds and three steals before fouling out of the game late in the second half. Feldman finished the day with 15 points.
Providence (4-0) will return to action on Tuesday, November 21 against non-conference opponent Saint Francis (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
