KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team traveled to Kingston, R.I. this past weekend, for the 2005 University of Rhode Island Invitational. Playing at the No. 1 spot, junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) posted a perfect 3-0 mark in singles action. Daigle defeated Fairfield (6-0, 6-0), Sacred Heart (6-2, 6-2) and Rhode Island (6-2, 6-1). Senior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) got off to a great start by defeating Fairfield (6-0, 5-7, 13-11), but fell short to Sacred Heart (6-1, 6-0) and URI (6-0, 6-2). Freshman Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) turned in the second best Friar performance, defeating Fairfield (6-2, 3-6, 10-3) and Sacred Heart (6-4, 6-2) before falling toURI (6-4, 6-3).
Gilroy continued her great play in doubles action as she and freshman Ashley Risolo (Southport, Conn.) went 2-0 with defeats over Fairfield (8-6) and Sacred Heart (8-1). Sophomore Erin Kenaga (Norwalk, Conn.) went 2-0 in doubles action as she teamed up with freshman Amy Davagian (Sutton, Mass.) to defeat Fairfield (8-6) and Katherine Danaher (Norwood, Mass.) to defeat Sacred Heart (8-6).
The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 25 when they travel to Hartford for a 11:00 a.m. match versus the Hawks.
