Women's Tennis Shut Out by Villanova

Providence, R.I. - On Saturday, April 4, the Providence College women's tennis was defeated, 7-0, by Villanova. Junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Carly Hoffend (Pittsford, N.Y.) were the only Friars to win a set against theit Wildcat opponents, both evening out the score with second set victories at first and sixth singles, respectively. Their comeback efforts fell short though, as each was defeated in the third and final set.
In doubles play, Providence was held winless as senior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) and junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) dropped their No. 1 match, 8-5, seniors Nicole Rodger (Newport, R.I.) and Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) fell, 8-3, at No. 2, and sophomores Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) and Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) were defeated, 8-6, at No. 3.
With the loss, Providence falls to 3-6 on the spring season (9-7 overall). The women's tennis team returns to action on Saturday April 9, when they travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. for a 12:30 p.m. match against Binghamton and a 4:00 p.m. match versus the hometeam Seawolves.
