PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week. It marks the second time in Gajda's career that he has been named Hockey East Player of the Week. Gajda helped the Friars capture the Providence College Holiday Classic as he totaled five points in two games.

On Wednesday, December 21, he scored one goal and recorded two assists as the Friars defeated No. 11 Colgate, 7-1, to advance to the championship game of the Holiday Classic. The following night, Gajda recorded two assists to lead PC to a 5-2 triumph over Sacred Heart in the championship game. The win marked the first time since 1999 that the Friars won an in-season tournament. It also marked PC's fifth consecutive victory, a feat that had not been accomplished since the start of the 2002-03 season. Gajda leads the team in scoring with a career high 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists).

The Friars (11-6-1, 8-2-1 Hockey East), who are one win shy of equalling last season's win total (12), return to action on Friday, February 6 when they travel to Boston University for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
