Women's Ice Hockey Voted No. 8 In National Polls

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team moved back into the national spotlight with an eighth place ranking in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll this week. The Friars are coming off a 2-0 weekend with 5-1 and 6-1 victories in a home-and-home series against Northeastern on Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30.

St. Lawrence (190) retained the No. 1 position for the fifth straight week. Minnesota-Duluth (163) and Wisconsin (159) remain at the second and third slots, respectively.

Providence College will hit the road to face top-ranked St. Lawrence in Canton, N.Y. at Appleton Arena on Saturday, November 5 in the only top-10 match-up of the week. Last season, the Friars defeated fifth-ranked St. Lawrence, 5-1, on November 7, 2004 at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The last time the Friars competed against the Saints in Canton, N.Y., they skated to a 2-2 tie on October 19, 2003. The Friars are scheduled to conclude the weekend on Sunday, November 6 against Clarkson at 2:00 p.m.
