Karen Thatcher Named HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week

November 1, 2005 - PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 1, 2005) -- Providence College senior forward Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week on October 31, 2005.

Thatcher led Providence to a 2-0 week as she poured in six points on three goals and three assists against Northeastern on Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30. On Saturday, Thatcher netted the game-winning goal and added two assists in the 5-1 win at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. On Sunday, Thatcher posted two goals and one assist, including power play and short-handed goals in the 6-1 win over Northeastern at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I.

Thatcher leads the team with eight points on four goals and four assists. She has surpassed former Friar Donna Salvoni (1981-85) with 136 career points (59 goals, 77 assists) and is currently 16th on PC's all-time points list. Thatcher needs 14 points to reach the 150-point career plateau.

The Friars travel to New York to face top-ranked St. Lawrence on Saturday, November 5, and Clarkson on Sunday, November 6. Both games are slated for 2:00 p.m.
