PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Senior forward Ryan Gomes scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Monday night, leading Providence to a 79-63 win over Brown.
The Friars (9-4) won their fourth straight game after losing four of six. It was also Providence's 21st win in the last 23 games against Brown in the 112th meeting between the schools.
Gomes, who hit 10 of 13 shots from the field, recorded his 38th career double-double and scored over 20 points for the fifth time in six games.
Dwight Brewington added 15 points for Providence. Luke Ruscoe led Brown (6-6) with 12 points.
After Brown's Damon Huffman drove and scored to tie it at 24, the Friars took charge with a 18-5 run over the final 7:38 of the half and led 42-29 at halftime. Brown went the final 5:48 of the half without a basket.
Rob McKiver started the run with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, Gomes had a 3-pointer and McKiver added another one minute, 12 seconds later, making it 37-28.
In the second half, PC opened with a 7-0 run before Brown ended an 8:06 drought without a basket on Huffman's layup.
PC leads the series 87-25.
With a win over Brown...Providence has now won four straight for the first time since last season. In 2003-04 the Friars posted a pair of six-game winning streaks...Including a season-high 12 blocks in the win over Brown, the Friars have recorded a rejection in every game this season. Totaling 85 through 13 games, Providence is averaging 6.5 blocks per contest. With their 12 blocks, the Frairs also recorded their highest team total since 12/27/99 when they recorded 13 rejections against Long Island (p. 183 of media guide)...Providence also tallied a season-high 50 rebounds...Gomes recorded his 4th double-double of the season and the 38th of his career...He also posted his 7th game of 20-points or more on the year...Herbert Hill had a career-high 10 rebounds...Forte entered the game averaging a team-leading 18.1 ppg and was held to just nine.
