Women's Tennis Defeated By Villanova, 6-1

The Providence College Friars were defeated by Villanova, 6-1, on Saturday, April 24 in Villanova, Pa.
In singles action, Providence's No. 2 sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) earned the lone victory on the day as she defeated Melissa Reed in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. PC's No. 1, freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Candice Carlin in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The Friars dropped the No. 3 and No. 4 singles, as sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) lost to Courtney Flezzani, 6-2, 6-1, while junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was defeated by Kelly McAndrew, 6-3, 7-6, 7-4. Providence's No. 5, junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was downed by Jessie Rybacki, 6-2, 6-2. In the final singles match No. 6, freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) was defeated by Erica Walter, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane were downed by Carlin and Reed, 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Rodger were defeated by McAndrew and Rybacki, 8-3. The No. 3 team of Lee and Daigle lost the last doubles match of the day to Walter and Flezzani, 9-7.
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 27 as they take on the Wildcats of New Hampshire at 2:30 p.m.
