Women's Tennis Defeated By St. John's, 5-0

The Providence College Friars were defeated by St. John's, 5-0, on Sunday, April 25 in Jamaica, N.Y.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1, freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Hande Gorur in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. PC's No. 4, junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was defeated by Lauren Leo, 6-0, 6-1, while Providence's No. 5, junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was downed by Lauren Lorenzetti in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. No. 6, freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) was defeated by Jennifer Liantonio, 6-4, 6-2. The No. 2 match between sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) and Kristina Bothova and the No. 3 match between sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and Allison Davidson were both canceled due to rain.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Bitetti and Lapane were downed by Gorur and Leo, 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Rodger were defeated by Lorenzetti and Davidson, 8-3. The No. 3 team of Lee and Daigle lost the last doubles match of the day to Bothova and Liantonio,8-3.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 27 as they take on the Wildcats of New Hampshire at 2:30 p.m.
