Women's Tennis Falls To Broward Community College

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by Broward Community College, 7-2, on Thursday, March 11 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
In singles action junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) earned her first victory of the spring season and the only singles victory of the day for Providence. Rodger defeated Leigh Ann Moss at the No. 5 spot in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was defeated by Karine Inesco, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) fell to Leigh Shelton in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) lost the third match of the day to Renaldine Achille, 6-3, 6-4 in the third singles slot, while junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) playing No. 4 singles was defeated by Kristel Izquierdo, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) was defeated by Kim Decker, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 6 slot.
In doubles action the No. 1 team of Lapane and Bitetti was defeated by Inesco and Shleton, 8-3, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Rodger fell to Izquierdo and Achille, 8-6. The No. 3 team of Daigle and Lee were beat Rachel Sturay and Decker, 5-2, as they had to retire.
With the loss the Friars dropped to 3-6 on the season. Providence returns to action on Saturday, March 20 as they travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on Albany at 5:30 p.m.
