PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's hockey goalie David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, December 6. It marks the third time in his career that Cacciola has earned the honor and the first time this year.
Cacciola's week was highlighted by 60-save performance against Boston College on December 4 as the Friars skated to a 1-1 overtime tie against the second-ranked Eagles. His 60 saves was the first time a PC goalie has recorded 60 or more saves since Chris Terreri made 62 stops on March 29, 1985 in the NCAA Championship game against Rensselaer. Cacciola also made 25 saves on December 3 as the Friars were defeated at UMass on December 3.
Cacciola is the son of Veronica and David Cacciola.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, December 8 when they battle the Rensselaer Engineers.
