PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Randy Burns scored 24 points, leading Wichita State to 1 90-86 win over Providence on Saturday night.

Jamar Howard added 16 and Rob Kampmann and had 10 each for Wichita State (5-0), who improved to 5-0. Ryan Gomes and Tuukka Kotti, also with 22 led the Friars (5-4).

Dwight Brewington scored 12 and Gerald Brown added 10 for Providence.

Gomes scored 15 points in the last 15 minutes of the contest, three times drawing the Friars to within two. His 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds cut the lead to 86-83.

But Burns scored four points in the last 5.2 seconds to seal the win.

Burns gave Wichita State its biggest lead, 54-42, on a technical foul shot at 15:41.

The Friars battled back several times, using full-court pressure to force turnovers and rally in the final minutes.

Burns' 12 first-half points sparked Wichita State to 41-34 halftime lead.

Howard's layup made it 20-10 midway through the first half, but Providence went on an 18-7 run and took their first lead, 28-27, on Brown's 3-point play.
