PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's hockey freshman goaltender Tyler Sims (Forth Worth, Texas) was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 8. Sims becomes the first PC goalie to earn the league's rookie of the week honors since David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) on December 3, 2001.
Sims made his collegiate debut on Saturday, November 6 against Wayne State at Schneider Arena. He stopped 36 shots, including 19 in the third period, to lead the Friars past the Warriors, 4-1.
Prior to joining the Friars, Sims played for the Youngstown Phantoms of the NAHL in 2003-04. He ranked third in the league in saves and finished second with four shutouts. He is the son of Sue and Al Sims.
The Friars return to action on Friday, November 12 when they travel to New Hampshire to battle the Wildcats beginning at 7:00 p.m.
