BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season as it was defeated, 3-2, on Friday, October 22 at Boston University in a Hockey East battle at Walter Brown Arena.

Boston University controlled much of the play in the first period as they outshot the Friars, 12-5. The Terriers failed to convert on four power-play chances in the opening period, but managed to score an even-strength goal at 18:26 as Brad Zancanaro's back hander from in close got passed PC netminder David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) and trickled into the net.

In the second period, the Terriers finally were able to take advantage of the power play at 6:15 as Peter McArthur tapped his fourth goal of the season after a scrum in front of the net. BU had several chances to increase its lead, but Cacciola was strong as he stopped several point blank shots, including a breakaway attempt by Brad Zancanaro at 9:19. PC came on strong late in the period as freshman Jon Rheault (Deering, N.H.) created several scoring opportunities, but the Friars could not convert.

Penalties continued to hurt the Friars in the third period as the Terriers scored on a two-man advantage at 4:07. However, Providence responded at 7:31 as senior Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored on the power play. Juniors Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.) and James Pemberton (Cumberland, R.I.) assisted on the goal. The Friars pulled to within, 3-2, at 14:42 with another power-play tally. Chaput made a rush through center ice and made a pass to sophomore Colin McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.) who fired a high wrist shot from the left face off circle and beat BU netminder John Curry to the glove side. Providence pulled Cacciola for an extra skater with 16 seconds remaining, but it was not enough as the Terriers held on. Curry made 22 saves in net for BU, while Cacciola earned the game's third star with a 34-save performance.

Providence returns to action on Friday, October 29 with a home game against Hockey East foe, UMass at 7:00 p.m.
