Women's Tennis Defeats Bryant, 7-0

The Providence College Friars tennis team swept Bryant College, 7-0, on Thursday, April 23, in Providence, R.I.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) defeated Alex Spence, 7-6, 6-4, while PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) downed Alanna Santanello, 6-3, 6-1. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) won her third match in a row by defeating Liz Gouthier, 6-0, 6-0. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) defeated Ashleigh McLean, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) playing in the No. 5 slot for Providence beat Sasha Garabedian, 6-2, 6-0. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 junior Trisha Pollock (York, Maine) downed Ariana Rinaudo, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles action the No.1 team of Lapane and Gilbride defeated Santanello and Spence, 8-3, while the No. 2 team of Bitetti and Christensen defeated Rinaudo and Garabedian, 8-1. In the final doubles match of the day the No. 3 doubles team of Rodger and Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) were defeated by McLean and Gouthier, 8-4.

The Friars return to action on Thursday, April 24 as they Holy Cross College at 3:00 p.m.
