Women's Tennis Falls To Villanova, 6-1

The Providence College Friars tennis team was downed by Villanova University, 6-1, on Sunday, April 13, in Providence, R.I.
In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) was defeated by Jennifer Zick in a hard fought match, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, while PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was downed by Stephane Ariot, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) defeated Courtney Flezzani, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) was defeated by Jessie Rybacki, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) playing in the No. 5 slot for Providence was beaten by Kelly McAndrew, 6-3, 6-1. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 junior Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) was downed by Erica Walter, 6-2, 6-4.
The Friars were swept in doubles action for the fourth time in five matches, as the No.1 team of Lapane and Gilbride fell to Ariot and Rybacki, 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Bitetti and Christensen were defeated by Zick and McAndrew, 8-4. In the final doubles match of the day the No. 3 doubles team of Rodger and Viola were defeated by Courtney Flezzani and Morgan Flezzani, 8-4.
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 22 as the travel to Fairfield, Connecticut for a match against Sacred Heart University at 3:00 p.m.
