Providence College Friars (10-12/0-6): The Providence College softball team will host Rutgers in a BIG EAST double header on Monday, April 14 at Raymond Field. The Friars are coming off a pair of losses (11-0, 9-2) against Villanova on Sunday, April 13 in Providence. PC was led by junior Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) who batted two for four with one run in the double header. Sophomore Jackie Karsnia's 11-game hitting streak came to an end as she did not have a hit versus Villanova on April 13. Karsnia is second on the team with a .343 batting average. Overall, freshman Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) leads the team in batting average (.380), hits (27), RBI (14), slugging percentage (.507) and on base percentage (.429). On the mound, Van Dusen leads the squad with 3.06 ERA. She has posted a 4-3 record this season and 52 strikeouts. Senior Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) leads the Friars with a 4-1 record, while sophomore Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) is first on the team in strikeouts (69) and innings pitched (53.2).
Rutgers University Scarlet Knights (15-12/1-5): The Scarlet Knights travel to Providence, R.I. on Saturday, April 12 to face the Friars having won one of their first six BIG EAST contests. Their most recent action came on Sunday, April 6 at Connecticut when they were swept in a double header by the Huskies, 10-2 and 2-0. Sophomore Crystal Vargas (Jersey City, N.J.) was the only Scarlet Knight to have more than one hit on the day has she went one for one in the first game and one for three in the second. Junior Nikki Childress (Roanoke, Va.) leads Rutgers in hitting with a .412 batting average. She also has a team-high 28 hits, five doubles, and .647 slugging percentage. On the mound, junior Brielle Cosentino (Carlstadt, N.J.) has a team-high 16 appearances (10 starts), compiling a 5-6 record with a 4.50 ERA. Last season, Rutgers defeated Providence twice in Piscataway, N.J., 7-2 and 3-0.
