Women's Tennis Falls To Vermont, 6-1

The Providence College women's tennis team was defeated by the University of Vermont,6-1, on Sunday, February 23, in Burlington, Vt.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) lost to Laura Beth Halter in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. PC's No. 2, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) fell to Molly Moran, 6-0, 6-3. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was defeated in straight sets by Mandy Harrison, 6-1, 6-1. Providence's No. 4, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) defeated Susannah O'Brien in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was defeated in the No. 5 spot by Alie Taylor, 6-2, 6-3. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 Katie Viola (South Hadley, Mass.) was defeated by Kyna Delaney, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles action, The No.1 team of Lapane and Bitetti defeated Moran and Delaney, 9-8, while the No. 2 team of Gilbride and Christensen were defeated by Halter and Taylor, 8-2. In the final match of the day Rodger and freshman Sue Weaver (Far Hills, N.J.) were defeated by Harrison and Maika Foukal, 8-3.
