Women's Tennis Defeats Vermont, 5-2

The Providence College Friars defeated the University of Vermont, 5-2, on Saturday, October 11 in Providence, R.I. to improve their record to 2-1 on the season.
In singles action, Providence's No. 1, freshman Jen Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) lost to Molly Moran, 6-7, 6-1, 10-6. PC's No. 2, sophomore Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) defeated Kyna Delaney, 6-2, 6-1. Providence's No. 3, sophomore Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) defeated Liz DeCurtis, 7-5, 6-2. PC's No. 4, junior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) defeated Danielle Fleury, 6-2, 6-0. Providence's No. 5, junior Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Alexis Accomando, 6-4, 6-2 and No. 6, junior Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) was defeated by Meghan Linehan, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
In doubles action, Providence's No. 1 team of Christensen and Bitetti was defeated by Delaney and Accomando, 8-5. The Friars won the final two doubles matches as Gilbride and Lapane defeated Moran and Linehan, 8-2, and Daigle and fellow freshman Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) defeated Ali Pelkey and Fleury, 8-1.
The Friars return to action this coming weekend as they travel to Burlington, Vt. to compete in the New England Championships on October, 17-19.
