CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Providence College men's hockey team defeated No. 6 Boston College, 4-1, at Kelley Rink. Senior Doug Wright scored two goals and freshman Bobby Goepfert (Kings Park, N.Y.) made 24 saves to lead the Friars.
The Friars jumped to a 1-0 lead when Wright (Kamsack, Sask.) collected a rebound off the pads of BC netminder Matti Kaltiainen and put the puck into the empty net for his second goal of the season at 3:35 of the first period. PC increased its lead to 2-0 as Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) pounced on a loose puck in the crease and scored his 13th goal of the season at 10:44. The Eagles cut the lead in half at 16:37 as Tony Voce scored 11th goal of the season.
The Friars regained their two goal advantage (3-1) at the 11:39 mark of the second period as senior Mike Lucci (Parma, Ohio) deflected a shot from teammate Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) past Kaltiainen. Wright completed the scoring with 48 seconds left with an empty net goal.
Goepfert made 24 saves for the Friars and Kaltiainen stopped 17 shots.
The two teams will play each other again on Saturday, January 25 at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
