Women's Tennis at Eastern Collegiate Championships

West Point, N.Y. - Providence College No. 2 singles player freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) reached the semifinal round of the Eastern Collegiate Tennis Championships on September 13-15 in West Point, N.Y. Playing in her first collegiate tournament, Lapane won her opening round match and then defeated Nicole Cercone of Seton Hall, 6-4, 7-5. Lapane then fell in the semifinal round to Stephanie Price of University of Massachusetts, 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, sophomore Katy Bednar (Marblehead, Mass.) fell in the opening round, 6-0, 6-2. In the consolation round, Bednar advanced to the quarterfinal round before falling to Violeta Petijevic of Albany, 7-6(5), 6-3. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) lost in the first round, 6-1, 6-3, and in the consolation round, 6-1, 6-0, while freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) lost in the round of 16 to Vivian Figueroa of Seton Hall, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) and junior Eleana Stayer (Portland, Ore.) advance to the quarterfinals of the consolation round before falling to Lauren Conching and Carmie Zink of Stony Brook 9-8(3). The No. 2 doubles team of junior Caitlyn Pacheco (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) lost in the round of 16 to Kat Ehle and April Sonon of Quinnipiac 8-3.
