PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Romuald Augustin scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds and Ryan Gomes added 20 points and 10 rebounds to rally Providence past Northeastern 80-61 on Saturday night.
Tuukka Kotti had 13 points for the Friars (5-3) who trailed 41-37 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half on the strength of their foul shooting. Providence made just one more field goal than the Huskies in the second half, but went 21 of 28 from the line, 30 of 38 from the line in the game.
Kotti's basket gave the Friars the lead for good, 46-45. Then three different players sank consecutive 3-pointers as Providence started to pull away.
Aaron Davis led Northeastern (5-6) with 12 points while Sylbrin Robinson and Jose Juan Barea had 11 each.
Northeastern outscored Providence 28-16 in the paint and scored 10 fast-break points compared to none for the Friars to build its halftime lead. The Huskies shot 50 percent in the first half, led by Davis with 10 points, but Providence held Northeastern to 8 of 34 shooting in the second half (24 percent).
The Friars' Maris Laksa, who leads the team with 14.6 points per game, was held to five points on 1 of 9 shooting.
