#6 Women's Hockey Travels To #7 Brown

#6 Providence College Friars (7-3-1): The Providence College women's ice hockey team travels to cross-town rival Brown University to face the Bears in the eighth annual Mayor's Cup game. Providence has won its last five games, all of which have been played on the road. In their most recent game, on November 23, the Friars traveled to fourth-ranked Dartmouth and defeated the Big Green, 5-2. The five different Friars scoring goals were junior forward Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba), sophomore forward Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.), senior forward Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.), sophomore forward Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), and senior defenseman Melanie Ruzzi (Burnsville, Minn.). The goals scored by Stephenson and Butsch marked a team-high seventh on the year for each of them. Junior defenseman Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) recorded two assists in the game, which ties her with Butsch for the team-lead in assists with eight. Butsch continues to lead the Friars in points with 15. Freshman goalie Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 22 saves in the game and improved her record to 6-2-1 on the season. For the season, Bugden has a 1.58 goals per game average and a .930 save percentage. The Friars and Bears have met 46 times with Providence owning a 26-19-1 record over Brown.

#7 Brown University Bears (4-3-1): The Bears host the Friars in the eighth annual Mayor's Cup game. In its most recent games, Brown defeated both Cornell, 9-1, on November 22, and Colgate, 5-0, on November 23. Leading the Brown offense this season has been sophomore forward Jessica Link (Clifton Park, N.Y.) with team highs in goals (six) and points (12). Leading the Bears in assists, with seven, and second in goals scored, with nine, is sophomore forward Kerry Nugent (Andover, Mass.). Senior goaltender Pam Dreyer (Eagle River, Alaska) has started seven games and has compiled a 4-2-1 record. She has a 1.78 goals per game average and a .921 save percentage on the season. Head Coach Digit Murphy is in her 14th year at Brown and led the Bears to the National Championship game last season. Her Bears own a 5-1-1 record over the Friars in the seven previous Mayor Cup matchups.
