Women's Tennis Defeated by Holy Cross

The Providence College Friars were defeated by the Holy Cross Crusaders,6-1, on Wednesday, October 2, in Worcester, Mass.

In singles action, Providence's No. 1 sophomore Katy Bednar (Marblehead, Mass.) lost to Amy Crump, 6-1, 6-2. PC's No. 2, freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) got the lone Friars win when Missy Crump had to withdraw from the match in the first set with the score at, 3-2. PC's No. 3, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was defeated after a tough match with Britt Burns, 6-3, 6-4. Providence's No. 4, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and No. 5, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) fell, respectively, to Carrie Simmons, 6-3, 6-3 and Melissa Levy, 6-2, 6-1. In the final singles slot PC's No. 6 sophomore Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) was defeated by Aly Bell after a hard fought first set, 7-5, 6-0.

In doubles action, The No.1 team of Bednar and Christensen fell to Amy and Missy Crump, 8-2. In the final match of the day Gilbride and Rodger were defeated by Burns and Simmons, 8-4.

The Friars next match is at home on Thursday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. against Bryant College.
