The Providence College Friars were defeated by the University of New Hampshire Wildcars,7-0, on Thursday, October 10, in Durham, N.H. In singles action, Providence's No. 1 freshman Cheri Lapane (Reading, Mass.) lost to Lindsey Johnson, 6-2, 6-1. PC's No. 2, sophomore Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) lost after a hard fought first set to Hallie Erickson, 7-6, 6-1. PC's No. 3, freshman Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) was defeated by Linsey Dixon, 6-0, 6-3. Providence's No. 4, Nicole Rodger (Lowell, Mass.) fell to Jenny Witter after putting up a strong fight, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. PC's No. 5, sophomore Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) and No. 6 Trish Pollack (York, Maine) fell, respectively, to Jess Rasay, 6-4, 6-1 and Francesca DiBora, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, The No.1 team of Lapane and Bitetti defeated Johnson and Erickson, 8-4. The No. 2 doubles team of Gilbride and junior Eleana Stayer (Portland, Ore.) were defeated by Witter and Dixon, 8-1. In the final doubles match of the day Rodger and Christensen fell to DiBora and Debbie Kung, 8-4 The Friars next match is the New England Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 18-20 in Burlington, Vt.
