PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's hockey team defeated Iona College, 11-0, on Saturday, October 12 at Schneider Arena. Junior Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) tallied a hat trick, while freshman Torry Gajda (Westfield, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Friars.

The Friars scored the only goal they would need at 3:20 mark of the first period when graduate student Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) scored his fourth goal of the season. Freshman Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate goal at the 11:05 mark of the first period to give the Friars a 2-0 lead. PC led 4-0 after one period

PC scored five more goals in the second period, led by Zingoni, who scored twice within a span of 42 seconds. Senior Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) capped off the scoring in the third period with his first goal of the season. With that goal, DiSalvatore became the 47th player in Providence College history to record 100 career points.

PC freshman forward Nate Meyers (Maple Glen, Pa.) recorded his first career points with one goal and one assist. Freshman goaltender Bobby Goepfert (Kings Park, N.Y.) made 20 saves to earn the shutout in his collegiate debut. Sophomore David Carpentier (Faribault, Minn.) tallied a career-high four assists. With the victory, it marked the Friars' largest margin of victory since they defeated Maine, 11-0, on February 6, 1982. It also marks the first time Providence has scored 11 goals in a game since an 11-4 win against Merrimack on November 16, 1990.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, October 18 at Schneider for the first of two games against Minnesota State, Mankato.
