Men's and Women's Tennis Announce 2002 Spring Schedule

Providence College men's and women's tennis Head Coach Carl LaBranche announced the men's and women's tennis 2002 spring schedule on Wednesday, January 9.
The men's team recorded a 3-0 mark in the fall of 2001 and open their spring schedule on Sunday, February 10 at Central Connecticut. PC then faces Hartford and Vermont in Burlington, Vt. on Saturday, February 16. The Friars also will play Marist in Vermont on Sunday, February 17. The Friars travel to Orlando, Fla. for matches against Lake Superior State and Southern Indiana on March 5 and 6, respectively.
PC plays its first home match of the spring season on Tuesday, April 2 as it hosts Boston College. The BC match marks the first of four consecutive home matches for the Friars. The Friars finish the regular season on Saturday, March 13 at St. John's. The BIG EAST Championship is set for April 19-21 at the University of Miami in Miami, Fla.
The women's team, who posted a 4-2 record in the fall of 2001, open the spring season on Sunday, February 10 at Central Connecticut. PC faces Dartmouth on Sunday, February 17 and hosts Rutgers on Friday, March 1, before making a trip to Florida. The Friars will play Pittsburgh, Lake Superior State and James Madison in Florida on March 4, 5 and 8, respectively. PC then returns home for a March 16 match against Georgetown. The regular season ends on Saturday, April 13 when the Friars play St. John's in Jamaica, N.Y. The BIG EAST Championship is slated for April 19-21 at the University of Miami in Miami, Fla.
The women's team finished the 2000-01 season with a 10-7 overall record, including a 4-7 mark in the spring of 2001. The Friars' last appearance in the BIG EAST Championship was during the 1999-2000 season as they finished eighth. The men's team posted a 13-8 overall record in 2000-01, including an 11-8 mark in the spring season. The men's team also played in the 2000 BIG EAST Championship and finished sixth.
