CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team defeated Boston College 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in ECAC action. The game was the season finale for both squads, and the win secured an ECAC playoff spot for the Friars.
Boston College took a 1-0 lead at the 2:18 mark of the first period as Jen Buckley scored on a feed from Kelly McManus. PC's Jackie Tamsin notted the score at 1-1 with 17:32 on the clock off of a double assist from Jessica Tabb and Darlene Stephenson.
Stephenson followed with the eventual game-winning-goal 7:44 into the third period after both teams suffered a scoreless second period. Stephenson's goal was assisted by Tabb. Kim Mathias pushed the score to 3-1 at 10:59 off assists from Angela Hill and Tabb. Valerie Bono closed out the Friar attack with a goal at 19:21. Tabb was credited with her fourth assist of the game.
In goal for the Friars, Amy Quinlan played all 60 minutes and made 12 saves. Sharon VanTuyl registered 31 saves in just over 57 minutes for Boston College.
