BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Providence College men's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Vermont, 153-127, on Saturday, February 3.
The men's squad was paced by senior Mike Frenza (Watertown, Conn.) and freshman Patrick Kavanagh (Newburgh, N.Y.). Frenza won three individual events and moved into fourth place on PC's men's all-time career points leaderboard with 536.25 points. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.12, the 100 freestyle in 49.47 and the 100 butterfly in 55.14. He also swam the anchor leg of Providence's first-place 200 freestyle relay.
Kavanaugh won one events and finished in second place in two other events, earning key points towards the Friars' victory. PC's top men's freshman won the 500 freestyle in 5:06.31 and finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:39.69 and the 200 freestyle in 1:59.29. Kavanaugh also swam on Providence's first-place 200 freestyle relay.
The Friars return to action on February 9-10 when they compete in the Husky Invitational at the University of Connecticut.
