PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Sophomore Devin Rask tallied the game's only goal at the 17:50 mark of the third period as the 10th-ranked Providence College Friars defeated the Merrimack Warriors, 1-0, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, February 3 at PC's Schneider Arena.
Jon DiSalvatore redirected a pass at the red line that sprung Rask into the offensive zone. Rask skated to the right face-off circle and then snapped a wrist shot over Merrimack's goaltender Joe Exter's shoulder. The goal was Rask's team-leading 15th of the season and ended 57:50 of scoreless hockey.
The Warriors pulled Exter late in third period but were unable to tie the game. After the game's final whistle, the two team became physical and PC's Jon DiSalvatore and Merrimack's Nick Cammarata were each assessed a game disqualification for fighting.
Friar's goaltender Nolan Schaefer stopped 24 shots while recording his third shutout of the season. Exter finished with a game-high 36 saves.
With the win, the Friars improved to 15-7-4 overall and 9-5-2 in HOCKEY EAST, while Merrimack fell to 12-15-3 and 5-11-2 in league play.
Providence College will return to action on Friday, February 9 versus Boston College at 7:00 p.m.
