Women's Swimming Defeats Sacred Heart, 166-107

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's swimming and diving team defeated Sacred Heart University, 166-107, in a non-conference meet at PC's Taylor Natatorium on Wednesday, November 7.

The Friars won 10 of the 16 events with senior Lee Barnum (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Kathryn Donovan (Simi Valley, Calif.) winning two events each. Barnum won the 200 meter butterfly in 2:31.40 and won the 100 meter butterfly in 1:09.04. Donovan won the 200 meter freestyle in 2:12.48 and won the 400 meter freestyle in 4:39.29.

Other Providence winners began with the 200 meter Medley Relay, which the Friars' team of seniors Nicole Mancini (Fall River, Mass.), Lauren DeGray (Wethersfield, Conn.), Carolyn Gesker (Herndon, Va.) and Allison Buckley (Chelmsford, Mass.) won in 2:12.63. Sophomore Heather Smith (New London, Conn.) won the 100 meter breaststroke in 2:12.48. Freshman Jamie Moden-Cohen (Yorktown, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving event, her second win in the event this season, with a score of 100.40.

Buckley won the 200 meter backstroke, finishing in 2:33.15 and junior Kate Fuller (Staten Island, N.Y.) won the 200 meter breaststroke in 2:53.50, and finally, sophomore Sarah Lyons (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the 100 meter butterfly, finishing in 1:15.66.

Both the men's and women's teams compete next on Saturday, November 10 when they host Stoneybrook. The meet starts with diving at 11:00 a.m. and swimming events beginning at 1:00 p.m.
