NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated at Merrimack College, 3-2, on Friday, November 30 at Volpe Complex in North Andover, Mass.

Merrimack won the contest in the third period, when Ryan Cordeiro scored on a scrum in front of the Providence goal. The goal negated a 2-2 tie and gave Merrimack their first win in HOCKEY EAST play this season.

After a scoreless first period, Merrimack's opened the scoring at the 2:06 mark of the second period, when Anthony Aquino beat Providence junior goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.). The Friars evened the score when senior forward Drew Omicioli (West Warwick, R.I.) scored short-handed to tie the contest at 1-1.

PC took a 2-1 lead at the mark when sophomore John Luszcz (Ludlow, Mass.) fired a shot from the board that deflected past MC's Joe Exter for the score. Providence sophomores Mike Robinson (Biggar, Sask.) and Cody Loughlean (Innisfail, Alta.) assisted on the goal, picking up their first points of the season. Aquino scored his second goal of the contest at 17:54 to tie the game at 2-2, when he beat Schaefer off the face off.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, December 1 when they host Merrimack at PC's Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
