Men's Tennis Competes At BIG EAST Championship

Providence, R.I... The Providence College men's tennis team capped off their season with a solid performance at the 2000 BIG EAST Championship, at Miami, Fla. on April 19-23. The team entered the tournament seeded ninth in an 11 team field. The squad posted a 2-2 record over the weekend and returned home with a sixth place finish. The doubles team of Chris Riccobono (Franklin Lake, N.J.) and Paco Fabian (Norwalk, Conn.) paced the Friars with a 2-1 doubles record. Riccobono also posted a 2-0 singles record for the tournament.
The team opened play on April 20, with a 4-1 win over eighth seeded Boston College. The Friars then fell to top seeded Miami, 4-0. The squad then moved to the consolation bracket, on April 22, the Friars upset sixth seeded Connecticut, 4-2. The win advanced the team to the fifth place match versus Rutgers on April 22. Rutgers eliminated the Friars, 4-0.
