PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman center Marcus Douthit of Syracuse, N.Y. was named BIG EAST Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, December 26. He is the first Friar to earn Rookie of the Week since Sean Connolly received the accolade on November 30, 1998.

The 6-10 rookie center recorded career highs in points (22), rebounds (11) and field goals (11-14) while registering his first double-double.
