PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior forward Julian Dunkley (Cherry Hill, N.J.) recorded a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) to lead the Maine Black Bears to an 80-71 win over Providence College in men's basketball action on Tuesday, November 21 at the Providence Civic Center.

The Friars (1-1) started strong as they took a seven point lead four minutes into the game when senior Karim Shabazz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) hit a 14-foot jump shot to put PC ahead, 9-2. However, junior guard Huggy Dye (Danville, Ill.) got the Black Bears back into the game with a nine points in the first 20 minutes of action. Maine went into halftime with a 38-33 lead.

Dunkley hit a three pointer to start the second half which put Maine ahead by eight points. That shot seemed to spark the Friars as Senior Erron Maxey (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) scored four points as the team went on a 12-2 run and led 46-43 with 14:57 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for PC, Maine increased its intensity and regained the lead. The Black Bears led by as much as 10 points in the final minutes of the game.

The Black Bears (1-1) took advantage of their opportunities from the free-throw line, shooting 77.8 percent (14-18).

Friar sophomore Abdul Mills (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Providence with 19 points. Maxey recorded his first double-double of the season, registering 11 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Providence returns to play on Friday, November 24 against UMKC in the Energia Systems Thanksgiving Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
