Providence, R.I--The Providence College women's tennis team finished second out of eight teams at the 2000 New England Tennis Championship on October 21-22 at Burlington, Vt. PC's 25 points was three points behind the first-place University of Vermont Catamounts.

The Friars were able to capture three individual titles and one doubles title over the three day event. Junior Brooke Rubin (Cranston, R.I.) posted a 3-0 record capturing the No. 1 singles title. Senior Alison Carton (Millburn, N.J.), also recorded a 3-0 mark claiming the No. 2 singles title. Carton's first round victory over Fairfield's Alyssa Haddad was her 70th career win, making her Providence's all-time leader in career wins. Carton's career record now stands at 72-34. In the No. 3 singles, junior Gina Vlasek (Atlanta, Ga.) captured the Friars' third singles title. The Friars' bid at a fourth singles title fell a bit short as junior Katie Lafayette (Norwich, Conn.) lost in the No. 5 finals.

In doubles action, the pair of Rubin and Carton struck again to capture the No.1 doubles title.

The Friars will return to action on Nov. 4-7 at the Region I Championships in Williamsburg, Va.
