Women's Hockey Defeats Maine, 8-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I.---The Providence College Friars defeated the University of Maine Black Bears, 8-2 in women?s hockey action, on January 15, at Maine?s Alfond Arena.

The Friars jumped out early on the Bears, scoring five first period goals. Leading the way for the Friars, were sophomores Jennifer Kranz (Waukesha, Wis.) and Jackie Tamsin (Branford Conn.), Kranz registered two goals and an assist, while Tamsin added two goals, including the eventual game-winner. Christa Talbot (Lake Forest, Calif.) doubled her season output for assists, chipping in with four.

Providence goaltenders Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) and Brigid Keady (Glencoe, Ill.) combined for 28 saves, while Maine netminders Dawn Froats and Amanda Cronin turned away 12 shots.

With the win Providence improved to 10-4-3 overall, 7-3-3 in the ECAC, while extending their unbeaten streak to eight games (5-0-3). The University of Maine dropped to 4-11-0 overall, 1-11-0 in the ECAC.

The Friars return to action on Sunday Jan. 16 at New Hampshire, at 2:00 p.m.
