FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Ranked 18th in the nation, Arkansas blew by the Providence College women's basketball team, 110-59 in the home opener in Fayetteville on Monday evening.
The evening began with the Lady Razorbacks unveiling their 1998 Final Four banner in Bud Walton Arena and ended with no reason they shouldn't be returning to the Showdown next March.
The Lady Backs jumped out quickly as they took a 10-0 lead before the Friars scored their first bucket of the season at the 16:38 mark of the first half. In the next six minutes, the Razorbacks had gained a 25 point lead in which Providence couldn't recover.
The Friars, who shot 35.5% from the floor were led by sophomore center Dani Trippany (Massena, NY) who tallied 16 points (7-11 FG) and grabbed eight boards. Freshman point guard Chrissy Vozab (Amenia, NY) tallied 10 points (4-11 FG) and played the first 35 minutes of the game, the most by any Friar.
Providence hit on three three-pointers on 12 attempts, while the Lady Backs hit on 15 treys.
Arkansas had five players in double digits and tallied a 47-33 rebound advantage over the Friars.
Providence faces Wake Forest, Tuesday, November 24 in the Providence Civic Center at 5:30 pm.
