Mike Scott Named BIG EAST Rookie Of The Week

Providence, R.I. - Providence College outfielder MIKE SCOTT (So., Darien, Conn.) has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season. Scott was chosen for his play in five Providence College games for the week ending April 25th.

Scott, who is leading the nation with 11 triples on the year, continues to roll through his rookie campaign. Last week, the 5-10, 160-pound leftfielder, helped the Friars to a 4-1 week, 3-1 in BIG EAST play.

For the week, Scott was 12-for-26 (.462) with four doubles, two triples, a home run, seven runs scored and ten runs batted in.

Scott got his big week started on Wednesday, April 21st at Boston College as he hit for the cycle. He opened the game with a double, hit a three-run homer in the second, singled in the fourth and drilled a two-run triple in the ninth for five rbi's as PC won 8-3.

On Saturday, April 24th in the first game of a BIG EAST doubleheader with Rutgers, the Darien, Connecticut native was 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and two rbi's as PC prevailed, 9-6. The second game, a 15-14 loss, saw Scott go 4-for-6 with a triple, two runs scored and three rbi's.

The Scarlet Knights slowed Scott on Sunday as he was 1-for-5 in the game with a run scored as the Friars won, 11-4.

On the season, Scott leads the Friars with a .421 average. He has 17 doubles, 11 triples, four homers and 54 rbi's as PC's leadoff hitter. In BIG EAST play, Scott checks in with a .430 average. His seven triples in league play are a BIG EAST record and his 11 triples overall is a PC record.

The lefthanded hitting Scott has set a PC single season record for hits with 93 and his 54 rbi's are the most ever by a Friar freshman.

Scott has helped PC to a 37-13 overall record and the Friars are 12-8 in BIG EAST play, one game behind third place St. John's (10-6) and two behind second place Rutgers (14-6).

Providence returns to action on Sunday, May 2nd when they face the St. John's Red Storm in a BIG EAST doubleheader at Hendricken Field. Game time is 12 noon.
