PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Jeff Greer scored 21 points on 8 of 13 field goals to lead Rutgers to an 86-75 win against Providence in a Big East match Sunday.

Rutgers (15-7, 7-5) never trailed and built up a 37-27 halftime lead behind Greer's 13 first-half points.

Jamell Thomas led Providence (14-9 and 7-6) with 23 points.

The Scarlet Knights extended the lead to 60-39 on Billet's two foul shots with 12:47 left. But the Friars' full court pressure forced several Rutgers turnovers and led Providence to a 28-13 run capped by Thomas' layup with 2:23 left. The move made the score 73-67.

Joel Salvi scored eight of Rutger's final 13 points to help pad Rutgers' lead.

Also scoring in double figures for Rutgers were Billet with 18 points, Kent with 14 points, and Salvi with 11.

Justin Farley added 14 points for Providence but with just 1:36 left in the game, Farley pushed Salvi and was ejected.

Still, Salvi scored six more points after the mishap.

The Friars caused 24 turnovers but were unable to capitalize on the scoring.

Rutgers made 24 free throws while Providence made 10.
